A complete production line for unsaturated polyester resin
Unsaturated polyester resin equipment is the key equipment used to produce unsaturated polyester resin, phenolic resin, epoxy resin, ABS resin and paint. Resin production of this kind is a multi-step process, not a single reaction, and each step has its own temperature, pressure and hold time.
That is what makes it a systems problem rather than a vessel problem. The reaction itself has to be controlled precisely, but the vapour generated has to be taken overhead, fractionated, condensed and returned. Missing any one of those stages does not just reduce yield — it stops the line.
The customer needed a complete production line rather than a single reactor, and needed all of it in a material suitable for contact with the process.
We supplied a complete unsaturated polyester resin production system, built from the reaction pot through to the dilution side. The full set comprises:
All parts of the equipment that come into contact with the process material are made of stainless steel. That covers the reaction pot, the fractionating column, the condenser and the associated piping — the whole wetted path, not only the main vessel.
Because the same equipment base serves phenolic, epoxy and ABS resin as well as polyester, the system was specified to be transferable across those products rather than dedicated to a single formulation.
The customer received a full production line rather than an isolated reactor, so the reaction, separation and condensation stages are integrated and dimensioned against each other.
Specifying every wetted component in stainless steel means the corrosion allowance and the cleanability are consistent across the whole system, which is where resin plants usually run into trouble when vessels and piping are sourced separately.
And because this equipment base is used across polyester, phenolic, epoxy and ABS resin production, it gives the customer a line that can change product rather than one tied to a single formulation.
